Companion / Live in Carer

A live-in carer provides personal care, help with household chores, companionship and emotional support in their client's home. They live with their clients short-term or long term.


Typical responsibilities:

  • companionship including relationship building, making conversation and spending quality time together

  • personal care involving assisting with ambulation, bathing, dressing and undressing and continence support if needed

  • helping with mobility and assisting in getting around the home

  • help with medication according to the client’s care plan

  • household duties such as vacuuming, washing clothes, washing dishes, making beds, etc.

  • planning, preparing and cooking meals

  • running errands such as shopping or picking up prescriptions

  • caring for a pet


A good carer is someone who truly cares about others and is very patient, trustworthy and problem solver.
